The Seaside wrestling team took part in the Gladstone Invitational Dec. 21, and the Gulls placed eighth out of 13 teams with 49 points.
Scappoose won the team title with 167.5, followed by Yamhill-Carlton (149.5) and Molalla (103.5). Astoria was 10th with 31 points.
Seaside's Lawson Talamantez won the individual title at 182 pounds, accounting for 25.5 team points.
He won by pin in the first two rounds over Bo Edwards of Molalla (2:49) and Victor Carrasco of Taft (2:33).
In the semifinals, Talamantez built a 16-0 lead and won by technical fall of Raymond Helm of Scappoose (3:08), and he followed with a victory in the title bout of Gladstone's Shadrach Porter, a pin at the 3:33 mark.
The Gulls' Christopher Avery placed fourth at 170 for 11 team points. After a loss in the semifinals, Avery bounced back with a win by fall over Astoria's James Byers in 2:39.
Seaside's Daniel Lombardi went 2-2 at 132 pounds, with a first round fall over Ashtin Kauffman of Scappoose (1:36), and later a technical fall (4:40, 18-3) over Kevin Acosta of Taft in consolation action.
Aidan Tice scored three team points with two wins in consolation at 152, Forest Tice added three points at 195 (including a win over teammate David Cruz), and Tyler Tackitt scored two team points at 220.
