SEASIDE — With many of its players having had just two practices, the Seaside baseball team opened the season Wednesday with a 9-7 win over Molalla at Broadway Field.

Tied 5-5, the Gulls scored a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away.

Seaside had eight hits, with Isaias Jantes (3-for-4) leading the way. Astor Landwehr came off the bench to catch in the second inning, and went 2-for-3. Gage McFadden was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, and also started on the mound.

Travis Fenton came on in relief in the fifth and picked up the victory.

Seaside hosts its annual spring break tournament Friday through Sunday at Broadway Field. The Gulls open with Fort Vancouver at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
