Gretchen Hoekstre, Track

The senior bound for Brigham Young University led the entire country for a week, with her toss of 47 feet, 8 inches in the shot put April 6. Her mark is now tied for second, but she still leads the state of Oregon, at any level. In the Lower Columbia Invititional the following week, Hoekstre won the shot put (45-2) and set a personal best in winning the discus with a throw of 145-5, currently second in the state.

Boys

Payton Westerholm, Baseball

The senior shortstop/pitcher had two doubles in a loss to Astoria and two hits in a loss at Banks, and he was the winning pitcher in a come-from-behind victory over Tillamook April 12. Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Westerholm sparked the two-run rally with a leadoff single and later scored the tying run. On the mound, Brayden Johnson and Westerholm scattered five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.
