Rock Around the Clock at
the Rotary Foundation dinner

Members of the Rotary Club of Seaside who are planning the annual dinner and auction — and planning to Rock Around the Clock — are, back row from left, Denny Jones, Susan Deshon, Val Berrissoul, Doug Barker, Nicolle Landwehr, Bob Perkel and Rob Sachs. Front row, Sandy McDowall, left, and Laura Freedman.

Retiring Seaside Police Chief Bob Gross will be the honored guest at the annual dinner and auction sponsored by the Rotary Club of Seaside and its foundation.

The dinner begins at 5:30 pm Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. The 1950s inspired theme is “Rotary Rocks Around the Clock!”

Gross, who is retiring Oct. 31, has been active in Rotary and several other volunteer organizations in the Seaside community for years.

The dinner is the Rotary Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the event assist in serving the needs of local residents and organizations, as well as those throughout the world.

Projects include scholarships and international youth exchanges for high school students; upgrades to the Broadway Park field lights; the all-night “alcohol-free and safe” Seaside High School graduation party; the “Wishing Tree” holiday gift program; emergency housing for individuals, families and victims of domestic violence; assistance to the elderly; water and sanitation projects in remote villages in developing nations; and the eradication of polio worldwide.

Those wishing to help out can participate in sponsorships at varying contribution levels, donate or goods and services to the auction, attend the dinner or host a table of 10. Cost for the dinner and auction is $50 per person and $500 for a table of 10. Proceeds from the purchase of space in the event catalog to honor Gross and a “Raise the Paddle” event will go to the South County Food Community Food Bank Capital Campaign.
