The Elks’ Americanism Essay Contest theme for students this year was “Why Our Veterans are America’s Heroes.” First-place winner Patrick Benjamin Rainey received $75; second-place winner Jaya Homan received $25; and third-place winner Lauren Kropf received $15. All three students attend Seaside Heights Elementary School.

Their essays have been forwarded to the Northwest District contest for consideration of additional awards. Also sent to the district contest were essays by Maggie Goin, Dylan Phipps and Landin Haustein, all students at Broadway Middle School.
