The Seaside Fire Department responded to a report of a possible drowning Thursday afternoon at the beach near 12th Avenue.

“Somebody called in 911 saying they saw a possible body in the surf,” Chief Joey Daniels said at the scene. “When our lifeguards got there, somebody had already pulled them out of the water.”

An empty kayak was nearby, he said. “ We’re assuming they go together,” Daniels said. “We just don’t have an ID at this time.”

The victim had no heart rate and was not breathing when CPR was administered, Division Chief Chris Dugan said at the 12th Street parking lot.

“Things are still fluid right now,” Dugan said. “As soon as we got the report, we were right there. He’ll be transported to Providence Seaside.”
