Community college students and recent graduates who plan to attend a four-year university next fall may be eligible for scholarships.

Scholarships will be given to Clatsop Community College students with sophomore standing who are graduating by next summer or who have graduated since the spring of 2010. Applicants must also meet a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and plan to attend a four year college next fall.

The scholarships are offered by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

While the foundation considers academic excellence first in evaluating candidates, competitive applicants must also demonstrate unmet financial need. Demonstrated persistence, leadership and a desire to help others are also considered.

Recent scholarships have provided up to $40,000 per year to community college students and recent alumni to help them earn a four-year degree. Students are no longer required to be formally nominated by the college to compete for this scholarship; however, applicants should plan ahead to request online recommendations from two faculty members of their choice.

All application materials are due by Dec. 2, 2014. For more information and online application, visit http://www.jkcf.org/scholarship-programs/undergraduate-transfer.

Questions may also be addressed to the college faculty representative Nancy Cook, 503-338-2335 or ncook@clatsopcc.edu.
