With the help of donations from the community, the Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District completed construction of a Youth Garden. The garden space will serve the participants of the following district programs: preschool, kindergarten after-school and the after-school adventure. The garden will provide access to participant programs that range in age from 3-14 (preschool-8th grade).
The Youth Garden, coupled with the Sunny Pool Garden and the Community Railroad Garden, give the residents expanded opportunities to participate in the healthy activities of cultivating fruits, vegetables and herbs as well as increase opportunities for individuals and youth to spend time outside.
The Youth Garden was completed as part of a Seaside High School Pacifica Project. Students Sam Beaudoin, Josef Barbic and Raiden Bowles led the project with valuable assistance from Master Gardeners Ed and Barbara Hassen.
The project will be celebrated during an open garden event Wednesday, June 8, starting at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend this event, which is being held in the gardens located behind Sunset Pool at 1140 Broadway in Seaside. Free food will be provided by the North Coast Food Web.
