Manzanita couple killed in Highway 101 crash

Police responded to a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 101 Saturday.

CANNON BEACH — Two people died Saturday in a two-vehicle, head-on crash just north of Cannon Beach on U.S. Highway 101.

Oregon State Police say the driver of a 2011 Hyundai sport utility vehicle, Gregory W. Heron, and his passenger, Martha H, Heron, both 64 and from Manzanita, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police reported the driver of the other vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, Diana R. Feke, 57, and her passenger Jethro J. Feke, 59, both of West Linn, received injuries. Both were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

According to state police, preliminary information indicates the Hyundai was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when it crossed over the centerline and struck the Chevrolet head-on.

Highway 101 was closed for about 3 1/2 hours while the investigation was conducted, reopening at 7:20 p.m.

State police were assisted by the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, Cannon Beach Fire Department, Cannon Beach Police Department and the state Department of Transportation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
