Examine bills carefully

Seaside Police reported counterfeit bills passed to local merchants.

Two fake $50 bills were successfully passed in Seaside on Sunday at a downtown business. A second attempt at another business failed when the business recognized the $50 bills as feeling different than legitimate currency.

Seaside Police advise good money “feels” very different than fake bills. In the case of these two $50, they feel very different than traditional, good money. According to police, counterfeit bills will usually be passed together so that a merchant won’t notice the bills don’t feel the same.

Report potential counterfeit bills to the non-emergency line with the Seaside Police Department, 503-738-6311.
