A man identified as Ott Stanley Custer washed up on rocks in Gearhart on Tuesday afternoon amid heavy rain and high surf.

Police Chief Jeff Bowman said the body was reported at 1:32 p.m. by two young people near Little Beach.

Bowman contacted Elizabeth DeVisser, Clatsop County’s death investigator, who responded to the scene.

The Gearhart Fire Department assisted in retrieving the body from the rocks.

Bowman described the person as an older white male in heavy clothing and a rain suit.

It is unknown how long Custer was in the water. He was transported to a funeral home for identification and cause of death.
