What's on the shelves? Not just hardware, but feed, grain and everything for the home gardener.
Store manager Mel Zundel welcomed members of the Seaside Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning to introduce the new Ace Farm & Garden, part of an expansion at the South Holladay Drive location.
“When we first started, we were going to build this building,” Zundel, who has been at the Seaside store for seven years, explained. “When we went to the Planning Commission, the man who owned the building behind us was there. As we were walking out, he said, ‘Why don’t you buy my building too?’”
They did just that, turning the neighboring building into a warehouse to keep the farm and garden store well stocked.
The new farm and garden center offers Stihl power tools and does small engine repair on all makes and models, Zundel said.
The hardware store adjacent to the center has been retooled, with a full line of Carhartt clothing, boots and rain gear. “We wanted to make this a destination place instead of, ‘Oh, I need a screw, let’s stop at Ace,’” Zundel said.
“So far we’ve been accepted really well,” he added. “We take any and all suggestions, we’re new at this, I’ve done hardware for 15 years, but never done feed.”
