NEWPORT — Newport’s Dakota Rundell poured in 22 points — which nearly matched the team total for Seaside — in the Cubs’ 44-23 win over the Gulls in a nonleague girls basketball game Friday.

The points were hard to come by for the short-handed Gulls, who are still playing without Emy Kiser, and were without Bryre Babbitt Friday.

Newport led 23-7 at halftime, before Annaka Garhofer knocked down a 3-pointer and Jetta Ideue converted a three-point play to bring the Gulls within 10 points early in the third quarter.

But Rundell got hot as the game progressed, as the sophomore made three 3-pointers in the final quarter to help the Cubs pull away for their second win over the Gulls this season.
